Raj Kanwar's 'Farz' is the story of ACP Arjun Singh (Om Puri) who happily lives with his wife Rukmani (Farida Jalal), daughter Kajal (Preity Zinta) and son, Rahul. But when Arjun's brother-in-law (Dara Singh), also a police officer, dies on duty while protecting a politician, Arjun fears for the safety of his family. Adding to his woes, the city is being terrorized by Gawa Firozi (Jackie Shroff) and his brother Sikander (Mukesh Tiwari). Karan Singh (Sunny Deol) from Punjab is called to team up with Arjun. Karan is known to get justice done in his own way, sometimes even by flouting the legal rules. Once, he saves Kajal from some goons in her college. Kajal is smitten by him. But as her feelings for Karan become known to her family, Arjun Singh bars her from meeting Karan. While the two clash at personal level, they need to work together as a team, trying to restore public safety by eliminating the terror of Gawa and Sikander. Will their different ways of working work to their advantage?
